Providing Educational Resources and Funding Opportunities to Reach Milestones (P.E.R.F.O.R.M)
PERFORM is a program designed to use funding from donations and grants to provide local youth opportunities to participate in dance programs. This support will be available in one of two ways:
1. Financial assistance will be provided for dance instruction. Each year the PERFORM program will provide funding to cover partial or full tuition and fees for class with local programs that have been approved by the S.I.S.T.A Board of Directors. Programs deemed eligible to receive funding will be evaluated on the following criteria:
a) Length of Time operating
b) Classes / services offered
c) Reputable Instructors / Staff
d) Cost of classes (reasonable in-line with industry standards)
Local organizations can submit an application at any time with SISTA to become an approved program for funding.
Applications for financial assistance will be evaluated for Fall, Winter and Summer sessions of dance. Applicants funding will be approved on an incremental basis and funds will be paid directly to the organization providing the service from S.I.S.T.A after receipt of an invoice. The amount of funding provided will be based on the funds available through the PERFORM programs receipts of donations and/or grants.
2. Participants in the PERFORM program may conjunctively or alternatively receive support through receipt of supplies needed to participate in a dance program. Recipients will receive merchandise vouchers to assist with the purchase of class attire, shoes, or performance costumes.
Applications for vouchers will be evaluated for Fall, Winter and Summer sessions of dance. Vouchers will be redeemable at specific Board pre-approved vendors who will in turn invoice S.I.S.T.A for the merchandise that has been purchased with the vouchers. The number of vouchers provided and their amount will be based on the funds available through the PERFORM program.
Performing Arts Community Education(P.A.C.E.) Program
Through the PACE program SISTA hopes to unveil talents and interests that some youth have yet to uncover or expose. PACE will serve as a source of growth, pride, hope and inspiration for many of its participants who may be able to use the experience as inspiration in other situations in and outside of the arts. There are currently three major parts to the PACE program:
1. PACE will use funding from donations and grants to provide group dance instruction to those that may not otherwise have the funding or opportunities to participate in dance programs. Through the PACE program S.I.S.T.A. will partner with local community centers, schools and other community organizations to provide organized and structured dance lessons to youth in the community. Specifically PACE will target youth centers, group homes, afterschool programs in low income areas, foster care organizations, and city youth organizations to provide these services. Volunteers with prior dance training and a commitment to the arts and the mission of SISTA will provide dance instruction in this portion of the program.
2. Participants in the PACE program will also be provided the opportunity to attend local performing arts events which will provide further exposure to dance and other fine arts. Participants will be provided with tickets to performance and then encouraged to participate in post performance discussions of theirs and others’ points of view. The various interpretations of the events will serve to further enhance creativity and critical thinking. Volunteers of SISTA will serve as chaperones and also facilitators of these events.
3. Annually PACE will hold a Spring Break and Summer Performing Arts Camp. During these camps participants will have the opportunity to further explore dance and other facets of the performing arts such as drama, voice, music, and musical theatre. Students will participate in these lessons daily throughout the duration of the camp developing and refining their skills in these areas. Funding for the camps will be used to provide a full funding for some participants and also as a subsidy to reduce the overall cost of the camp so that it is affordable for all who would like to attend. While some parts of this program will operate through the efforts of volunteers, funding will be necessary to cover the costs of the instructors and artists who will facilitate the lessons and training provided to the participants.
